The Purge 2026

By mhbanz

Players!

With 5 Australian states represented, The Purge for 2026 did not dissapoint! With 7 rounds of Kill Team across 2 fantastic days and 2 World Championships of Warhammer golden tickets up for grabs the competition was courteous but fierce at the same time!

The enegy and vibe across all of the rounds played were amazing and everytime you walked past a table there was good solid discussion, players verbalising moves by playing with intent, dropping a joke for laughs, genuine comradere between players and not a single bit of toxicity across the 47 amazing players that were an absolute pleasure to host.

With some of the worlds best seasoned players mixed in amongs first-time tournament attendees, casual players, the semi-competitive we had great representation from the entire spectrum of the community which is what its all about, and The feedback from all the players this year was amazing.

Winding into the 4the round the top-table action was gaining some serious momentum and the strategies were coming in thick and fast! Elites were present but the mastery of the teams that ended up taking the Top 3 spots was clearly evident and watching it was seriously impressive!

1st Place: Aleksa Pavkovic from NSW with Corsair Voidscarred
2nd Place: Michael Bourke from VIC with Battleclade
3rd Place: Mikey Hood from NSW with Battleclade

With Aleksa already claiming a Golden Ticket from another event, the ticket went to next-in-line and accepted by Michael Bourke! (Mikey Hood also had a ticket from another event so all of the Top 3 are headed to the WCW's! congrats Gents!)

A big thank-you to HR Games for co-supporting 1st and 2nd place prizes and Good Games for co-supporting 3rd place prize!

No different to every other GTR event, there were some SERIOUSLY good painted models represented on tables which made the job of picking best painted a challenge to say the least, however... There could be only 2!

Painting was judged across 3 aspects for submissions which were: Painting prowess (how well they were painted and technique used), relevance to source theme (if they looked like the models that were being put on the table) and finally creativity (how much addional effort was put in!)

1st place: Rohan Edwards from VIC with Celestian Insidiants
2nd place: Ryan Alcock from NSW with Murderwing

And again a big thank you to our friends at Artis Opus for co-supporting the 1st place prize and HR Games for co-supporting the second place prize

The second Golden Ticket for the event was issued through the "GTR Trifecta" award and was a mix of points, painting and being a good sport. Issuing this was a challenge also given there were so many who were exceeding across these 3 various elements.

This type of all-rounder awards and especially those that attract a chance of a Golden Ticket, are in my opinion a great representation of all the amazing aspects of the hobby the hobby that need to be championed much more.

The winner of the "GTR Trifecta" award had the best painted models, had his opponents come up and provide us direct feedback on how much of a great sport he was and went 4-3 at the event.

Golden Ticket Winner: Chang Yang from the ACT with his amazing attitude and Battleclade

Congratulations!
